DeComputeLab: Research Culture @ CST Cambridge

DeComputeLab: Research Culture @ CST Cambridge

5 participatory workshops for PhD students and early-career researchers (ECRs) in the Department of Computer Science and Technology (CST). The programme offers researchers safe space to reflect on the culture of academic life, and space for reflection on the broader humanistic, social, and ethical implications of their work. One of the key underlying themes of the series will be reflection on computing and computation as a way of engaging with the world and what role it plays in relation to other ways (humanistic, sociological, artistic and so on.)

Session 1. The beginning of it all: creativity and curiosity

Session 2. Computation and competition: the power of numbers.

Session 3. Give it or take it: data, traces, feelings.

Session 4. The imitation game: a drama of errors.

Session 5. Structures we create and structures we inhabit – on research cultures
